Summit Meeting With Andy Burnham

Ryan Li, Chairman of the Sino British Summit, and Hugh Findlay, Director of Government Relations, met with Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester.

Andy Burnham was the Labour Member of Parliament for Leigh from 2001 until his election as the Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017.

Throughout the meeting, Ryan Li and Hugh Findlay briefed Andy Burnham on the establishment of the Sino British Summit, its development and achievements, as well as the important political, economic and trade issues discussed at the inaugural Summit. Andy Burnham fully endorsed the Summit’s goal of promoting Sino British relations, and supported the development of ties between regional governments in the UK and China.

The importance of cooperation between Manchester and Chinese enterprises was also discussed, recognizing the success of Chairman Xi Jingping’s visit to Manchester; the US$400 million investment by a Chinese consortium into City Football Group; and the research cooperation between Huawei and The University of Manchester. Andy Burnham thanked China for its investment in Manchester, and hoped that these ties would continue to develop. Ryan Li said that the Summit would actively cooperate with the Mayor’s work, and hoped that Greater Manchester would continue to strengthen its ties with regional governments in China.
